Exeter Student Art Show

May 5 – June 4, 2017

Reception: Thursday, May 25, 5-7:30pm

Special Preview Hours: May 5 – 24, 2017 (Wednesdays & Thursdays 1-5, Fridays 9-5, Saturdays 10-4)

Special graduation hours on Sunday, June 4th, 11:30 am-3:30 pm

Investigation, research, and drive: INDY 500 is the result of a period of highly focused artmaking where PEA students in ART 500 and ART 999 conduct an in-depth exploration of art materials and themes. This exhibition will include a wide variety of work, from intricate ceramic sculptures and large-scale paintings to whimsical fashion designs and stop-motion animations. PEA art instructors, who have followed the same guidelines as the students in these advanced courses, will also have work on view. Through experimentation, critique, research, visiting artists, and deep time in the art studio, INDY 500 showcases the dynamic results of an immersive creative process.

A note about our special preview hours:

This exhibition will be open in installments. May 5-24 will feature Fall term work. Spring term work will be on view starting May 25. Stop by during preview hours to see the installation unfold in front of your eyes, and return in late May to see the entire gallery filled to the brim with art!

Lamont on Water

Neighboring
June 20-July 14, 2017
Reception: Thursday, June 22, 4-6 pm

*Please Note:

The Lamont Gallery on the Phillips Exeter Academy campus will be closed this summer for repairs. All programs in conjunction with Neighboring will be held at 225 Water Street in downtown Exeter, NH, right next to Swasey Parkway.

Neighboring features work from our neighbors—artists and craftspeople living in Rockingham County. The word ‘neighboring’ is an active one: it is an invitation to meet, to talk, and to linger in the local: to become aware of the rich resources around us, and to see how we participate in ways small and large in building diverse and thriving communities. Through drawing, painting, fiber arts, photography, and mixed media, Neighboring explores themes of locality, proximity, distance, self/other, the built environment, and the natural world.

Ongoing Programs:

June 20 – July 14
Bag Lunch at Lamont on Water

Stroll down to our temporary location on Water street this summer and join us for lunch at our bistro tables. Bring your bag lunch, your coffee from D2, your treats from St. Anthony’s Bakery, or some fresh goodness from Laney and Lu’s. Then see the Neighboring exhibition with works created by artists in our community, or participate in one of our ongoing workshops.

June 20 – July 14
Paper Houses: Building Communities

Stop by Lamont on Water and participate in this ongoing, drop-in workshop. Create a building to add to our paper neighborhood or create a community to take home with you. This workshop is free and open to all. Materials provided, but feel free to bring items from home to embellish your creations.

June 27 – July 14
Chalk Art Mural: How Does Your Garden Grow?

Add your flowering creation to the public chalk art mural adorning the Lamont on Water’s porch. Come back often to see how this garden grows and changes over the summer.

(ongoing programs available during business hours only)

Do you know your neighbors? What defines a neighbor, anyway? And what makes a vital neighborhood, from the local to the international?

Neighboring features work from our neighbors—artists and craftspeople living in Rockingham County. The word ‘neighboring’ is an active one: it is an invitation to meet, to talk, and to linger in the local: to become aware of the rich resources around us, and to see how we participate in ways small and large in building diverse and thriving communities. Through drawing, painting, fiber arts, photography, and mixed media, Neighboring explores themes of locality, proximity, distance, self/other, the built environment, and the natural world.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition, you are welcome to drop by for the artwork and also for the “everything else” of what it means to be actively engaged in a community. Enjoy your lunch at one of our bistro tables, participate in ongoing art activities, stroll through Swasey Park with an ice cream, stumble upon spontaneous artistic displays, and join impromptu conversations. You’ll never know who—or what—you’ll find! Visit the Lamont Gallery website to learn more about additional programs in conjunction with this exhibition.
